JCOM is a diamond-open-access journal fully funded and published by Sissa Medialab s.r.l.

As of January 2026, contributions are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0 International) licence. Previous publications, on the other hand, are available under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) licence.

Authors retain the right to distribute their Version of Record (VoR) via an institutional and/or subject repository under the same licence for release starting from 1 week after publication in JCOM. In this case, the file name must be the same as the one in JCOM and the following template must be used: Version of Record. Originally published in JCOM – Journal of Science Communication, [full citation as written in the "how to cite" on the manuscript's landing page], © [Year] The Author(s), licensed under CC BY 4.0. Available at: [DOI].

Copyright is retained by the authors by default.

Notwithstanding the aforementioned and in any case, JCOM authors are expected to have read and accepted the ethical policy described on the Journal web site.
