How to apply

Deadlines for registration and application for grants are shown in the table below. If you wish to be updated on programmes, grants, and other important news, please register for the newsletter by sending an email to masterclasses@jcom.sissa.it

Please feel free to register also if you are not sure to be able to participate: the registration gives you the opportunity to book a place in the course and be helped, if need, to find support for the participation. Fee must be paid 6 weeks before the course, not at the moment of the registration if earlier. To register use the "Register now" link on the right column of this page.

To apply for an ICTP grant fill in the registration form and tick the appropriate box in the form. More information on grants below.Selection criteria

Candidates who registered will be selected considering their curriculum, the date of submission of the registration form and the motivation statement which should illustrate: why they are interested in science communication programmes and if they are already active in the field; what they would like to gain from the course; how they can apply what learnt to their local context; etc. It is very important candidates give all information that will help the Selection Committee to operate a good selection. The motivation statement is part of the registration form, and the cv has to be uploaded when filling it online.

Fee and reduction

The fee for all courses is 950 €. This fee covers all training costs such as tuition, documentation, lunches, refreshments and a social dinner. It does not include travel, accommodation and per diem costs, which participants need to arrange for themselves.
This sum is reduced by 30% (665 €) for members of Ecsite (the European Network of Science Centres and Museums), Red PoP (the network for the Popularization of Science and Technology in Latin American and the Caribbean), PCST (Public Communication of Science and Technology international network), NAMES (North Africa and Middle East Science Centres Network) and other institutions and networks.
The reduction applies also to institutions and people who attended courses in 2014, 2015 and January and February 2016.

Grants
Some institutions offer grants to cover the cost of participation for specific audiences or countries.

  • ICTP grants: The International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) will cover entirely the registration, travel and accommodation expenses concerning the courses. Candidates can ask an ICTP grant for one course only. ICTP grants are applicable only to candidates who are nationals of a developing country and are working in one.
Check the table above for deadlines

  • Other grants (i.e. SISSA, Elettra Sincrotrone TriesteICGEB) are reserved to the internal staff of these institutions.
