Brian Trench is a researcher, evaluator and trainer living in Dublin, who has been centrally involved in developing science communication and science-in-society studies in Ireland. He was formerly a senior lecturer, co-ordinator of the Masters in Science Communication, and Head of School in the School of Communications of Dublin City University (DCU). He was a full-time journalist for 20 years before joining DCU. He has participated in many EU-funded and nationally funded research projects. Brian was a member of the government advisory body, Irish Council for Science Technology and Innovation, 1997-2003, and of the advisory committee of Dublin City of Science 2012. He has given talks and courses on science communication in 20 countries. He has written many papers and book chapters on science communication, and is co-editor with M. Bucchi of Handbook of Public Communication of Science and Technology (Routledge, 2008 and 2014) and of a forthcoming anthology of the best writings on science communication (Routledge 2015).
